It is clear that no meaning is achieved behind these beautiful words; because love, if it means loving the truth, does not conflict with the intellect, but rather, on the contrary, it is based on the intellect; considering that without the intellect, no truth would be known so that loving it would be possible, and love that is not based on cognition is a passion.

[The role of Sufi Muslims in spreading aversion to the intellect]

It can be hereby said that Sufi Muslims, along with the Muslim Ahl al-Hadith, have played a prominent role in spreading aversion to the intellect among Muslims; with the difference that the Muslim Ahl al-Hadith have been propagators of the narration-based religion, and Sufi Muslims have been propagators of the poetic religion! While poetry is relatively less reliable than conjectural narrations; but rather it is mostly nothing but fallacy and playing with words that, because of its melody, silences the intellect without convincing it; because it is clear that not every melodic statement is right, and it is not possible to know the truth by such nonsense; as God has called such beautiful and wrong words “flowery statements”, considered them what devils fabricate to deceive each other into enmity with the Prophets, and said: ﴿وَكَذَلِكَ جَعَلْنَا لِكُلِّ نَبِيٍّ عَدُوًّا شَيَاطِينَ الْإِنْسِ وَالْجِنِّ يُوحِي بَعْضُهُمْ إِلَى بَعْضٍ زُخْرُفَ الْقَوْلِ غُرُورًا ۚ وَلَوْ شَاءَ رَبُّكَ مَا فَعَلُوهُ ۖ فَذَرْهُمْ وَمَا يَفْتَرُونَ[1]; “Likewise, We made for all Prophets an enemy, evil ones from among human beings and jinn, some of whom convey flowery statements to some others for deception, whereas if your God had willed, they would have not done so, so leave them with their fabrications,” but rather He has called such deceptive sophistries “idle talks”, considered them as the cause of deviation from the way of God without knowledge and mocking it, and said: ﴿وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَنْ يَشْتَرِي لَهْوَ الْحَدِيثِ لِيُضِلَّ عَنْ سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ وَيَتَّخِذَهَا هُزُوًا ۚ أُولَئِكَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ مُهِينٌ[2]; “And among people there are those who use idle talks to mislead (people) from the way of God without knowledge and mock it; for them there will be a humiliating punishment.”
