[Authority of the Quran is not exclusive to the Prophet]

Yes, what has been attributed to some Muslims is the belief in lack of authority of the Quran for anyone other than the Prophet; in the sense that the Quran has been sent down exclusively to him, and therefore, his Sunnah is the only source of Islam, while this is contrary to what is perceptible and evident; because most of the verses of the Quran have not addressed the Prophet alone, but rather they have addressed all people and all Muslims with the phrases ﴿يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ[1]; “O people!” and ﴿يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا[2]; “O you who believed!”; as the Prophet has communicated it to all of them, while if it had been sent down exclusively to him and had no authority or benefit for others, then naturally communicating it to them would not have been obligatory, but rather it would have been vain and impermissible. Moreover, whether the Quran has been sent down exclusively to him or to all people, including him, his Sunnah is in agreement with it, and therefore, adherence to it does not conflict with adherence to his Sunnah. Therefore, God has explicitly considered it good to adhere to His Book and said: ﴿وَالَّذِينَ يُمَسِّكُونَ بِالْكِتَابِ وَأَقَامُوا الصَّلَاةَ إِنَّا لَا نُضِيعُ أَجْرَ الْمُصْلِحِينَ[3]; “And those who adhere to the Book and established prayer, We do not waste the reward of the reformers.” Moreover, the Sunnah of the Prophet has not been narrated in a mutawatir manner except in a few cases, and therefore, adherence to it is not sufficient for those who have come after him. However, one of its cases that has been narrated in a mutawatir manner is the Hadith of al-Thaqalayn, which has been narrated by more than thirty of his Sahabah and indicates the necessity of adhering to the Book of God after him.

[Impossibility of abrogating the Quran by the Sunnah of the Prophet]

It is hereby understood that referring to the Book of God in order to deduce the beliefs and rulings of Islam is possible and necessary, and beliefs and rulings that contradict its texts are not from Islam, even if they are based on the Sunnah of the Prophet; because the Sunnah of the Prophet is what he said or did according to the Quran, and it is not possible that it contradicts the Quran, nor is it competent to abrogate the Quran; because the Quran is the words of God, and the Prophet is more deserving of obeying the words of God and speaking and acting according to it, and if there is a need to abrogate the Quran, God is more aware and more deserving of it, and He does so through the Quran; because the Quran is mutawatir and has reached the eastern and western parts of the earth, but the Sunnah of the Prophet is not mutawatir, nor has it reached the east and west of the world like the Quran, and therefore, abrogating the Quran with the Sunnah of the Prophet is not sufficient, nor does it achieve the purpose of God, and is considered a delay in explaining at the time when it is needed. Therefore, abrogating the Quran is permissible only with the Quran and not permissible with the Sunnah of the Prophet, and therefore, it has not happened.
