as He has said: ﴿مَنْ يُطِعِ الرَّسُولَ فَقَدْ أَطَاعَ اللَّهَ[1]; “Whoever obeys the Messenger has obeyed God”; because he does not speak of his own accord but declares the will of God; as He has said: ﴿وَمَا يَنْطِقُ عَنِ الْهَوَى ۝ إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا وَحْيٌ يُوحَى[2]; “And he does not speak of (his own) desire; it is nothing but the revelation that is revealed.”

[It is necessary for the Prophet to be infallible]

Also, it is obligatory for God to protect him from every defect that disrupts the communication of His rulings; such as forgetting what God has manifested for him; as He has said: ﴿سَنُقْرِئُكَ فَلَا تَنْسَى[3]; “We will read to you, so you will not forget,” or such as changing it; as He has said: ﴿قُلْ مَا يَكُونُ لِي أَنْ أُبَدِّلَهُ مِنْ تِلْقَاءِ نَفْسِي[4]; “Say: ‘It is not for me to change it of my own accord,’” or such as falsely attributing to Him what He has not said; as He has said: ﴿وَلَوْ تَقَوَّلَ عَلَيْنَا بَعْضَ الْأَقَاوِيلِ ۝ لَأَخَذْنَا مِنْهُ بِالْيَمِينِ[5]; “And if he had falsely attributed to Us some sayings, We would have surely seized him with full might,” or such as refusing to communicate some of His rulings; as He has said: ﴿يَا أَيُّهَا الرَّسُولُ بَلِّغْ مَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْكَ مِنْ رَبِّكَ ۖ وَإِنْ لَمْ تَفْعَلْ فَمَا بَلَّغْتَ رِسَالَتَهُ ۚ وَاللَّهُ يَعْصِمُكَ مِنَ النَّاسِ[6]; “O Prophet! Communicate that which was revealed to you from your Lord, for if you do not do so, you have not communicated His mission, and God will protect you from people” ,or such as inclining toward oppressors in communicating His rulings; as He has said: ﴿وَلَوْلَا أَنْ ثَبَّتْنَاكَ لَقَدْ كِدْتَ تَرْكَنُ إِلَيْهِمْ شَيْئًا قَلِيلًا[7]; “And if We had not made you stand firm, you would almost have inclined toward them a little,” or such as every action that is considered a sin and obstructs certainty about a news; as He has said: ﴿إِنْ جَاءَكُمْ فَاسِقٌ بِنَبَإٍ فَتَبَيَّنُوا[8]; “If a sinner brings you any news, ascertain its truthfulness,” or such as intentionally violating the rights of others, which is considered as oppression;
