and such as Sulayman , when he was distracted by the care of beautiful horses in the evening and then forgot the remembrance of God before sunset; as God Almighty has said: ﴿إِذْ عُرِضَ عَلَيْهِ بِالْعَشِيِّ الصَّافِنَاتُ الْجِيَادُ ۝ فَقَالَ إِنِّي أَحْبَبْتُ حُبَّ الْخَيْرِ عَنْ ذِكْرِ رَبِّي حَتَّى تَوَارَتْ بِالْحِجَابِ[1]; “When beautiful horses were presented before him in the evening; so he said: ‘Indeed, I preferred the love of horses over the remembrance of my Lord until the sun disappeared behind the veil,’” and, of course, none of these actions, of which they immediately repented, is relevant to their communicating the rulings of God, and therefore, they cannot be considered contrary to their Prophethood; especially considering that the obligation to obey the Prophets is not necessarily due to their infallibility from such actions so that any defect in it would stop one from obeying them, but rather it may be due to God’s command to obey them, considering that it can be beneficial in general and justifiable in cases of error. Yes, the justification of obeying them does not fulfill the purpose of God by itself; because His purpose, by virtue of His perfection, is the human being’s achieving perfection, which can be achieved by true obedience, not just apparent obedience, and therefore, whether they did something wrong or not, their commands and prohibitions are necessarily compatible with God’s commands and prohibitions, and the obligation to obey them is due to this compatibility; as God Almighty has said: ﴿وَمَا آتَاكُمُ الرَّسُولُ فَخُذُوهُ وَمَا نَهَاكُمْ عَنْهُ فَانْتَهُوا ۚ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ ۖ إِنَّ اللَّهَ شَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ[2]; “And whatever the Prophet gives you, take it, and whatever he forbids you from, leave it, and fear God, for God is surely severe in punishment,” and said: ﴿فَلْيَحْذَرِ الَّذِينَ يُخَالِفُونَ عَنْ أَمْرِهِ أَنْ تُصِيبَهُمْ فِتْنَةٌ أَوْ يُصِيبَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ[3]; “So those who disobey His command should beware, lest a trial befall them or a painful punishment befall them.”
