and said: ﴿إِنَّ فِي ذَلِكَ لَآيَاتٍ لِقَوْمٍ يَعْقِلُونَ[1]; “Indeed, there are signs in it for a people who use the intellect,” and said: ﴿إِنَّ شَرَّ الدَّوَابِّ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ الصُّمُّ الْبُكْمُ الَّذِينَ لَا يَعْقِلُونَ[2]; “Indeed, the worst beings in the sight of God are the deaf and the dumb who do not use the intellect,” and said: ﴿صُمٌّ بُكْمٌ عُمْيٌ فَهُمْ لَا يَعْقِلُونَ[3]; “They are the deaf and the dumb and the blind, so they do not use the intellect,” and said: ﴿وَيَجْعَلُ الرِّجْسَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ لَا يَعْقِلُونَ[4]; “And He places impurity upon those who do not use the intellect.” These verses clearly imply that those who deny the authority of the intellect and avoid using it are the worst beings in the sight of God and the people of impurity and ignorance, but rather the frankness of these verses regarding the authority of the intellect and the necessity of using it is to the extent that one who denies them may be the denier of the essentials of Islam and outside of it! I have heard so many times from this group that they refuse intellectual matters and consider using the intellect for understanding Sharia an innovation, and it is clear that if the proof is given to any of them who hold this belief, the rulings of an apostate or a hypocrite apply to him; because the authority of the intellect and the necessity of using it in Sharia are among the essentials of Islam that whoever is ignorant about them is not excused.

[Doubts of deniers of the authority of the intellect]

It seems that what has made this group deny the authority of the intellect more than anything else has been the irrationality of their beliefs; because believing in the authority of the intellect requires abandoning these beliefs, and this is what they are not willing to do. I have seen them; many of them would rather die than abandon the beliefs of their predecessors; like polytheists who, according to words of God about them, say: ﴿إِنَّا وَجَدْنَا آبَاءَنَا عَلَى أُمَّةٍ وَإِنَّا عَلَى آثَارِهِمْ مُهْتَدُونَ[5]; “We found our fathers upon a religion, and we have been guided by following them,”
