[1]; “And the Pharaoh called out among his people, he said: ‘O my people! Is the kingdom of Egypt not mine, and these rivers that flow beneath me?! Do you not see?! Or I am better than this insignificant person who can hardly speak clearly! Then why gold bracelets were not sent down to him, or the Angels did not accompany him?!’” While Musa defeated him despite all these descriptions! As the victory of Muslims over the empires of the West and the East in the early Islamic decades was not due to their advanced military or invitation tools, but rather due to the attractiveness of their message that was able to make the splendor of the world empires lose favor with people and pave the way for their political and military development despite their limited facilities.

As a result, knowing the truth is possible for one who has abandoned all types of imitation, including imitating the predecessors, scholars, oppressors, disbelievers, and the majority of people, and has set the intellect as his criterion of cognition and is not content with the conjecture resulting from the sayings and actions of others in relation to his beliefs and deeds.

3. Passions

Another impediment to cognition is “passions”; because the human being’s self, due to his instincts, has likes and dislikes that do not necessarily correspond to reality and affect his cognition of it; as God Almighty has said: ﴿وَعَسَى أَنْ تَكْرَهُوا شَيْئًا وَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لَكُمْ ۖ وَعَسَى أَنْ تُحِبُّوا شَيْئًا وَهُوَ شَرٌّ لَكُمْ ۗ وَاللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ وَأَنْتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ[2]; “And perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you, and perhaps you like a thing and it is evil for you, and God knows and you do not know.” These likes and dislikes, which originate from the human being’s emotions and do not correspond to his intellect, create optimism and pessimism in his mind that stop his intellect from being realistic; because his intellect, due to being surrounded by his likes and dislikes, is not able to know what is good and what is evil
