because the power of disbelievers’ advertising to sell their products on the one hand, and the weakness of Muslims’ invitation toward concern for the Hereafter on the other hand, in addition to the lack of economic independence in Islamic countries, have left no opportunity for that. Consequently, worldliness has permeated the flesh and blood of Muslims, like a deadly poison, and dragged their intellects to death, and in the meantime, men like me who aspire to return to Islam can do nothing; because most Muslims, amid their worldliness, do not pay any attention to men like me, while naturally, it is not possible to return to Islam without the consent of most Muslims.

As a result, only those who, contrary to the tendency of society, have weakened their attachments to the world and strengthened their attachments to the Hereafter will succeed in knowing the truth and following it.

5. Fanaticism

Another impediment to cognition is “fanaticism,” and what is meant by it is a kind of national, sectarian, or political attachment that has no rational basis and obstructs fairness in knowing reality, and this is because a fanatic loves his nation, sect, or party, regardless of whether it is good or bad, to the extent that he is not able to know whether it is good or bad based on the intellect. In such a case, if there is a nation, sect, or party better than his nation, sect, or party based on the intellect, he is not willing to acquiesce in its superiority, but rather he insists unfairly on saying that his nation, sect, or party is superior and ignores reality; like Jews about whom God Almighty has said: ﴿أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا نَصِيبًا مِنَ الْكِتَابِ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْجِبْتِ وَالطَّاغُوتِ وَيَقُولُونَ لِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا هَؤُلَاءِ أَهْدَى مِنَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا سَبِيلًا[1]; “Did you not see those who were given a portion of the Book that they would believe in false gods and taghut and say about disbelievers: ‘They are more guided than those who have believed’?!” This is the zealotry of the age of ignorance that, when it takes over the intellect, stops it from acknowledging the truth and makes it defend falsehood; as God Almighty has said: ﴿إِذْ جَعَلَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا فِي قُلُوبِهِمُ الْحَمِيَّةَ حَمِيَّةَ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ[2]; “When those who disbelieved set zealotry in their hearts, the zealotry of the age of ignorance”;
