Translation of the saying:

Atabak ibn Jamshid al-Sughdi informed us, he said: I came to Mansoor Hashemi Khorasani while there were some men with him, so I waited until the men left, then he turned toward me and said: “Do you want something with me?” I said: “Yes, I have a question,” and I began to tremble because of his grandness. So he said: “Ask, and make it easy for yourself!” I said: “Are you Khorasani?” He said: “I am a man from Khorasan!” I said: “I did not mean that. I mean the man who prepares the ground for the Mahdi’s rule!” He said: “I am preparing the ground for the Mahdi’s rule!” I said: “I did not mean that. I mean the man who hands over the flag to the Mahdi!” He said: “Insha’Allah, Insha’Allah. What prevents you from saying Insha’Allah?!” Then two men came and interrupted him, so he met their needs. Then he turned toward me and said: “It has reached me that Ali, peace be upon him, was given a book from the books of the past, then he looked in it and found his name and description in it, so he cried and said: ‘Praise be to Allah with Whom I have not been forgotten. Praise be to Allah Who has affirmed me with Himself in the scripture of the righteous!’ So he did nothing but praise Allah, nor did he argue with anyone about it!”

Translation of the saying:

Muhammad ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Harawai informed us, he said: I heard Mansoor say in his du‘a: “O Lord! I ask you to show me the superiority of Your Caliph on Earth before I die!” I said: “May I be sacrificed for you, do you make such du‘a when you know that you will hand over the flag to him and accompany him wherever he goes?! He said: “I hope it will be as you described, but Abu Ja‘far (al-Baqir), peace be upon him, said: ‘Whoever claims that the matter has settled is lying, for Allah the Exalted, the Majestic has will in His creation; He brings forth what He wills and does what He wills!’” Then Mansoor said: “May Allah have mercy on whoever of you does what he has been commanded to do and does not plunge with those who plunge (into predicting the events of the end time)!”

Translation of the saying:

Isa ibn Abd al-Hamid al-Jowzajani informed us, he said: A man from people of knowledge asked me to get permission from Mansoor to visit him. I did so, and he gave him permission. Then, when he left him, I said to him: “What did you leave behind?” He said: “Woe to you, O Aba Muhammad! I just left a man who does not separate from the Quran, and it does not separate from him; Allah makes the truth flow from his tongue; He inspires him, an inspiration. So he is not asked about anything regarding Islam unless he answers. Knowledge gushes from him!” I said: “Did you not ask him who he was?” He said: “Yes. I said to him: ‘Who are you, may I be sacrificed for you?’ He said: ‘I am but a man from the nation of Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him and his family, who prepares the ground for the rule of a man from his offspring, called the Mahdi, and this is sufficient for you!’ I said: ‘We find in the books that you are the guided Caliph of Allah!’ He said: ‘Do you find this?!’ I said: ‘Yes, I swear to Allah. It has been narrated by Ali ibn Abi Talib, Abdullah ibn Mas‘ud, and Thawban, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him and his family, with this wording! He said: ‘I am but a man from the nation of Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him and his family, who prepares the ground for the rule of a man from his offspring, called the Mahdi, and this is sufficient for you!’ I said: ‘We find in the books that you are the Mahdi’s minister and his appointed successor to whom he gives his will!’ He said: ‘Do you find this?!’ I said: ‘Yes, I swear to Allah. It has been narrated by Abdullah ibn Abbas, Abdullah ibn Mas‘ud, Abdullah ibn Umar, and Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-Aas (from the Prophet), and by Jabir ibn Yazid from Abu Ja‘far (al-Baqir), and people have narrated your name, your father’s name, and your other outward descriptions!’ He said: ‘I am but a man from the nation of Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him and his family, who prepares the ground for the rule of a man from his offspring, called the Mahdi, and this is sufficient for you!’” The man said: “So I did not ask him about any of these things we find in the books unless he gave me the same answer!”

Translation of the saying:

Ali ibn Dawud al-Fayzabadi informed us, he said: I saw Mansoor while there were sheep with him that he was grazing, and no human being was with him. Then I said to myself: “If he does not answer me at this moment, he will never answer me.” So I said to him: “May I be sacrificed for you, are you the one of whom the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him and his family, gave us glad tidings?!” He said: “If you see him, your eyes will be brightened!” So I said to myself: “I said vaguely; he said vaguely too!” Then I said to him: “People ask, ‘Are you the same Mansoor whom they find (the promise of his emergence) in the books of the past?!’” He said: “Leave them, O son of Dawud! Because I swear to Allah, if I say yes to them, they will say, ‘He makes claims,’ and if I say no to them, they will say, ‘He practices taqiyyah!’ So leave them until Allah guides whomever He wills of them! He surely knows about their plot!” I said: “May I be sacrificed for you, they ask us about it, so what do we say to them?” He said: “They do not ask you about it except to seek strife and to seek its (true) interpretation, while none knows its (true) interpretation but Allah and those firmly grounded in knowledge! So when they ask you about it, say: ‘Perhaps some of what you seek to hasten has already come to you,’ and do not argue with them about it, nor impose (it) on them until Allah brings a man who informs them about me, as I informed them about him, and clarifies for them most of what they disagree about!”

Translation of the saying:

Zakir ibn Ma‘roof informed us, he said: I was with Mansoor in a gathering, and people asked him about everything, and he answered them. Then, when they finished their questions, a man said to him: “Allah has given you knowledge that He has not given to anyone else in the world while He has promised us through the words of His Messenger a man who rises from this land, is called Mansoor, and prepares the ground for the Mahdi’s rule, and you too are called Mansoor while you have such knowledge and invite toward the Mahdi. So are you him?” He said: “I am no one but one of the people!” Then, when that man insisted a lot, he said: “If you say what we say and remain silent about what we remain silent about, it is better for you!” Then the man said: “They reproach you and say: ‘If the one whom we have been promised had come, he would show himself to people and not hide from them!’” He said: “They are lying! Have they not heard the words of Ali about him when he said: ‘Be aware! One of us who reaches that time will move swiftly therein with a luminous light and follow the footsteps of the righteous in order to unfasten knots, free captives, divide what is united, and unite what is divided. He will be in concealment from people. Tracers will not find his trace even though they pursue with their eyes’?!” The man said: “We invite people toward this matter and may quarrel with them!” He said: “Avoid quarreling; because it preoccupies the mind, creates hypocrisy, and causes grudges! What is on you is only invitation, and quarreling is not on you!” The man said: “How can we not quarrel with them while they ask us?!” He said: “Whenever they ask you to quarrel with you, do not answer them and say to them: ‘Allah is our Lord and your Lord. For us are our deeds, and for you are your deeds. There is no dispute between us and you. Allah will bring us all together, and to Him is (our) return!’

Translation of the saying:

Muhammad ibn Ibrahim al-Shirazi informed us, he said: I said to Mansoor: “Can I ask you something?” He said: “Yes.” I said: “Are you the treasure of Talaqan that has been promised to us?” He said: “Who has promised you?” I said: “Allah and His Prophet.” He said: “Then ask Them about what They have promised you, and ask me about what I have promised you!” I said: “So it is you!” He said: “I did not say that!” I said: “Are you practicing taqiyyah against me?!” He said: “No, I swear to Allah. I do not give you a bag of lime (i.e., I am not afraid of you)!” I said: “Then you speak vaguely, while people do not become satisfied with your vagueness!” He said: “What do you want from me, O Shirazi?! Do you want me to be like a donkey that carries whatever they load onto it?!” I said: “No, may I be sacrificed for you, but they accuse you and say that if he was truthful, he would speak frankly and not make it vague!” He said: “If I made it vague, then Allah made it vague when He sent down the ambiguous verses and when He said: “They ask you as if you have full knowledge of it. Say: ‘Its knowledge is only with Allah, but most of the people do not know,’” and said: “They ask you about the soul. Say: ‘The soul is of the command of my Lord, and you were not given knowledge but a little,’” and said: “Say: ‘My Lord knows best their number. Only a few know about them, so do not argue about it but lightly, nor seek anyone else’s opinion about them,’” and Ibrahim, when he said: “This (star) is my lord,” and when he looked at the stars, “then he said: ‘I am sick’; then they turned away from him,” and when he said: “Rather, this chief of them did that, so ask them if they can speak,” and Yusuf, when “he put the drinking-cup in his brother’s saddle-bag, then a crier cried: ‘O men of the caravan! You are thieves,’” and when he said: “Do you know what you did to Yusuf and his brother when you were ignorant?!” and Sulayman, when he said: “Disguise her throne for her so we can see whether she is guided or if she is of those who are not guided. So when she came, it was said: ‘Is your throne like this?!’ She said: ‘It appears to be the same,’ and we were given knowledge before, and we were Muslims!”

Translation of the saying:

Zakir ibn Ma‘roof informed us, he said: We were in Mansoor’s presence in a mosque, asking him about beliefs and rulings, and he answered us. Then some men whom we did not know came to him, then they said: “Is there a man among you called Mansoor?!” So we remained silent and did not answer them until Mansoor said to them: “Yes, it is me!” So they turned toward him and said: “Are you the Mahdi’s caliph?! He said: “Has the Mahdi come so that there would be a caliph for him?!” They said: “We do not know, but so-and-so and so-and-so from your companions informed us that you are the Mahdi’s caliph!” He said: “I did not order them to do so!” They said: “Are they not your companions coming to you day and night?!” So anger appeared on Mansoor’s face, then he said: “They are not my companions. If they were my companions, they would follow me!” So when they saw that they made him angry, they left him. Then he turned toward us and said: “What is the matter with a people who load others onto our shoulders?! Do they not fear the Day when hearts and eyes will be overturned?! Speak to people about what they know, and do not speak to them about what they do not know so you would provoke them against us!”

Explanation of the saying:

It is understood from these sayings that the helpers of Mansoor -may Allah Almighty grant them success-, if it has become clear to them for any reason whatsoever that this great scholar is the promised preparer of the ground for the advent of the Mahdi, peace be upon him, and he has a special status with Allah and His Caliph, should not impose their belief on others or express it to those who, because of their ignorance and short-sightedness, do not hope for Allah’s mercy on this righteous servant and claim that it is impossible for Allah’s grace to have encompassed him. Instead, they should emphasize the Islamic certainties and commonalities mentioned in the book Return To Islam and avoid emphasizing other matters that have not been mentioned in this invaluable book; because their emphasis on these secondary and marginal matters casts a shadow over the Islamic certainties and commonalities mentioned in the book Return To Islam and ignites the enemies of Allah’s Book and His Caliph on Earth to increase their animosity against this inviter toward Them, then they manage to provoke the public against him, spread doubt, fear, pessimism, and aversion among them by exploiting their ignorance and emotions, and divert their attention away from his true teachings and sacred goals.

There is no doubt that supporting this scholar who speaks the truth is obligatory for every Muslim considering his pure invitation toward the pure and perfect Islam and his initiative to prepare the ground for the advent of the Mahdi, peace be upon him, which can be seen with the eye and heard by the ear as an external reality. Therefore, it is not necessary to emphasize the hidden and exceptional aspects of his personality, even though they can be proved through valid rational and religious methods.
